With Honorary Chair Steve Merren and Utica Symphony Orchestra Director Charles Schneider playing a medley of show tunes on flute and piano, the Utica Salvation Army kicked off its Red Kettle Campaign Nov. 19 at the Stanley Theatre, and presented Shel Storrier Bellringer of the Year Awards to Malcolm Buffington, Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, Mohawk Valley Community College, and Whitesboro High School. Angela Roefaro, assistant to Utica Mayor David Roefaro, praised the Army, along with Oneida County Executive Tony Picente, who also said: "If you give back to the community...you'll have a rewarding life."
